The Unihome consortium see Connecting the Community (CTC) as bringing information, services, applications and entertainment to user communites anytime, anywhere through multiple devices. UniHome showcases innovative CTC applications for over 1000 trial users from various communities in Singapore :

Unihome’s CTC applications are built for these communities to interact through an open platform. Providing connectivity tools for building community applications and delivering content quickly and economically to multiple devices, this platform also allow different service providers to serve the user communities through a wide range of connectivity and delivery device options such as PC, PDAs, mobile phones, TVs and other connected home devices.

 

Key Features of Project

Family Ties
This application allows better co-ordination of family events using IP devices or mobile phones, while videoconferencing opens up the possibilities of forging closer family-ties across this virtual medium. Precious snapshots of family events can be shared via streaming of digital pictures from mobile phone and home media server to TV, and from home media server to mobile phone.

Estate Connect
Allowing estate residents to request for services and provide feedback to management council and property managers, this application allows residents to book facilities and pay for services through various connected devices. These value-added services can help to enhance estate community living.

DIY Community Platform
Community groups can now set up their own community portals for group communication and event scheduling, making it quick and cost-effective way to connect communities.

Medical Appointment & Reminder System
The Healthcare CTC application allows on-line and mobile booking of clinic appointments and sends SMS reminders for appointments and medication. Clinics do not need to invest in IT resources and expertise, and can offer this connectivity tool to it’s patient community at minimal costs.

Ipals – Scool Applications
To foster greater parent-child academic participation, iPals enables parents to receive feedback on their children’s progress in school through means such as SMS of results, e-consent forms, updates on performance and attendance, and synchronising school and family calendars. IPals also gets parents more involved in school activities through online communication with the school, teachers and other parents.

KidzGrow Connection
For parents of children with learning difficulties, they can consult child learning specialists via online consultations, online workshops, online tracking and resources such as videoconferencing and webcast seminars.

Philips will develop real world applications and services in conjunction with its consortium partners. KidzGrow Pte Ltd specialises in providing effective programs and services in support of parents and children in the area of child development and learning. In this CFC, KidzGrow aims to connect the communities of parents and child development specialists via effective and convenient IT applications.

Ncode Consultants Pte Ltd provides online branding and online applications for schools and businesses locally, it is the lead developer for iPALS, a platform enabling parents and schools to work together – with information sharing, monitoring of students’ progress, and matching and planning of parents-volunteering scheme.

Temasek Polytechnic (TP) is an institute of Higher Learning in Singapore providing tertiary education. Internet Technology Competency Unit (ITCU) is one of the Competency Centres in TP. The objective of this unit is to proliferate and development, training and industry collaborations. Thus far, this Unit has worked with many companies through the Student-Internship Program and Final Year Project (SIP-FYP) scheme, which has proven to be successful. The core technologies that ITCU focuses on are Enterprise Web Applications, Wireless and Mobile Applications, Embedded Internet, Open Source and .NET.

HealthTrends Holding Pte Ltd is a New-Healthcare Corporation delivering innovative solutions to facilitate better integration of healthcare delivery services for the medical and the patient community. Nightingale Medical Reminder platform provides a reminder service for patient appointments, medical scheduling and other critical medical activities, thus improving the quality of services provided by healthcare providers to the patient community.
